You may have heard that “Dem MFers be Cookin”. Our names are Moses and Jas. We are self-taught home chefs who were born and raised in New Orleans, LA. Growing up in New Orleans, we experienced the rich culture and food, which greatly influenced our love for cooking. At a young age, I, Moses, began cooking, grilling, and even baking alongside my grandmother. I, Jas, also began to find my way around the kitchen at a young age, finding and crafting recipes to be my own.
We began dating in 2014 and quickly discovered one another’s love for cooking. We bonded over cooking and trying new restaurants, among other things. Ultimately, cooking meals for one another turned into friendly competitions where we would try to one-up each other. These friendly competitions eventually led to the creation of Moses Family Cookin, better known as MF Cookin. MF Cookin is where we share easy-to-follow, MF’in good recipes that inspire everyday cooks to experiment, create, and most importantly, enjoy the process of cooking. So if you want to explore your taste buds from the comfort of your home, you’ve come to the right place.
Wassup, y’all!? My name is Cornell Moses, but I go by Moses. Moses tends to stick with people, I guess for obvious reasons. I was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, and I’m a self-taught home chef and content creator.
I started cooking at a young age alongside my mama. And just so you know, when I say “mama,” I’m talking about my late grandmother, who raised me. She’s my why.
When I cook, I can still feel her presence in the kitchen. That’s one thing about my mama, you could always find her in there, cooking something up. Because of her, the kitchen has always held a special place in my heart. It’s more than just where I cook; it’s a place that keeps me connected to her.
For me, cooking has never been just about the food. It’s about the memories, the love, and carrying a piece of my mama with me every time I step into the kitchen.
Through this blog, I’m sharing her legacy, my favorite recipes, and a taste of what raised me. By the way, she would open her doors for anyone and welcome them in, so here I am doing the same. Welcome to the family!
Hey y’all! I’m Jasmine, but you can call me Jas.
I was born and raised in the Big Easy, New Orleans, Louisiana, where good food and community is just part of the air we breathe. I wear quite a few hats these days. When I’m not cooking or creating content, I’m usually buried in research as a doctoral student studying public policy with a focus on social policy.
To me, policy and cooking aren’t separate worlds, they are driven by the exact same mission of looking out for people and making life a little better for everyone. That connection started at a young age, watching and helping my mom in the kitchen during chaotic family gatherings and holidays. That’s where I first learned that a shared meal is a way to connect and build community. Eventually, I started creating dishes of my own, and as my passion grew, it clicked for me: social policy is about studying the systems that support people, while cooking is the tangible, real-world way we nurture them.
But let’s be real, balancing the heavy, intense world of doctoral research with content creation takes a lot out of you. That is exactly where the kitchen saves me. Over the years, cooking has become so much more than a hobby; it’s a true source of comfort. Cooking is my therapy. It brings me peace, fuels my creativity, and gives me a chance to turn off the noise, slow down, and just enjoy the moment.
This blog is a reflection of that peace, and through it, I hope you are able to find, create, and truly enjoy the process of cooking. My biggest wish is that these recipes bring you the exact same comfort and therapy that they give me.
If you be cookin’ too, join the family.
