One of the longest-running debates is whether chili should include beans or not. Ultimately, whether to include beans is entirely up to you, but contrary to popular belief, chili didn’t originally include beans. Heat a small amount of oil in a large pot. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up as it browns. Once browned, drain any excess grease.
Add the diced onion and peppers, stir to combine, and cook for 2 minutes.
Pour in the tomato sauce and fire-roasted diced tomatoes.
Season with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, chili powder, cumin, and smoked paprika.
Add the granulated sugar.
Pour in the beef broth and stir well.
Cover and simmer for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Serve and top with cheddar cheese, sour cream, jalapeños, and green onion.
Enjoy.
