Description

There are so many side dishes, but not every side dish has what it takes to be the main dish. You may ask, so what does it take? Well, it’s the quality of the dish that makes it a main. It’s the flavor, the richness, the substance. And that’s exactly what our Southern Style green beans are. These aren’t your average green beans. They are slow-simmered, deeply seasoned, melt-in-your-mouth green beans. They soak up every bit of smoky seasoning, tender onions, and broth until they’re infused with pure flavor. When a pot of Southern Style green beans is done right, it doesn’t just complement the meal; it becomes the meal.

Directions

Step 1

Dice yellow onion and mince garlic.

Step 2

In a pot, melt butter. Once the butter has melted, add in the diced onions and sauté for 2-3 minutes. Then add the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds or until fragrant.

Step 3

Add the smoked turkey to the pot and pour in chicken broth and water.

Step 4

Season with creole seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, a dash of cayenne, and crushed red pepper. Then add two bay leaves.

Step 5

Bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat, cover, and let it cook for 30 minutes.

Step 6

After 30 minutes, stir in the green beans. Cover and let the green beans cook low and slow for 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Step 7

After 1 hour and 30 minutes, cut the heat and remove the bay leaves and the smoked turkey.

Step 8

Pull the smoked turkey meat from the bones, then add the smoked turkey back to the pot.

Step 9

Serve and enjoy!
